TruPrevent Technologies

Any questions? FAQs

What is the difference between TruPrevent Technologies and the technologies used by "normal" antiviruses?

TruPrevent Technologies do not need to have previous knowledge of all the viruses that they can detect, unlike antiviruses that need a constantly updated Virus Signature File. In this sense, TruPrevent Technologies offer proactive protection, not reactive protection.

With TruPrevent Technologies do I still need to patch applications?

By default, TruPrevent Technologies offer generic protection against many of the techniques most commonly used by new viruses, and policies and rules are developed by Panda based on the new vulnerabilities that appear every day.

This means that it is considerably less urgent to patch applications. However, it is recommendable to regularly update applications with the patches released by manufacturers.

Why do I need TruPrevent Technologies if I already have antivirus protection?

Antiviruses are very effective at detecting and eliminating malicious code that they already know. If a known virus gets into the computer, they will rapidly eliminate it before it can carry out any actions and do any damage. However, in order to detect it, the antivirus must have the signature of the virus.

If a new virus appears that is not included in its Virus Signature File, the antivirus will not be able to detect it. It is in cases like this that TruPrevent Technologies offer additional, effective protection.

Why do I need TruPrevent Technologies if I already have a firewall?

A firewall is a perimeter protection component based on applying a series of rules that allow or deny the flow of protocols in a certain segment of the corporate network. TruPrevent Technologies offer much higher levels of protection, operating in the computer where the attack is carried out.

Why do I need TruPrevent Technologies if I already have an IDS?

An IDS takes a reactive approach: it basically warns the user that an attack is being launched, based on known attack patterns. IDS does not offer protection as such, but simply provides information, and what's more, also generates a large amount of false positives.

What is the difference between TruPrevent Technologies and heuristic technology?

Heuristic is an improvement incorporated in most antivirus products, based on a series of basic rules that scan static files and can only detect new viruses that are very similar to other known viruses.

TruPrevent Technologies go way beyond this, as they incorporate complex techniques like behavioral analysis, capable of effectively detecting unknown viruses.

What flexibility do TruPrevent Technologies offer network administrators?

The administration console incorporates a range of configuration options for TruPrevent Technologies, allowing administrators to adjust the protection to the precise needs of their networks. What's more, if necessary, TruPrevent Technologies can be installed and enabled without needing to adjust any settings, as its default settings are designed to offer optimum protection.

How can TruPrevent Technologies be compatible with other antivirus product when it has always been said that antiviruses are incompatible with one another?

Basically, because it is not an antivirus program, but technologies that are especially designed to detect threats that antivirus products cannot detect, and therefore, they can work along side them.

How do TruPrevent Technologies avoid generating false positives?

By applying additional techniques, they can more precisely and securely determine if a program is malicious code or not, unlike other techniques which are based on identifying series of actions, which could be malicious code or simply actions associated with a harmless process run in a given situation, such as installing an application.

What impact do TruPrevent Technologies have on the performance of the system on which they are installed?

TruPrevent Technologies have been designed with special attention to the impact they could have on the system they protect. These technologies incorporate specific consumption restrictions to avoid interfering with or overloading the CPU.

Can encrypted data slip past TruPrevent Technologies?

Data is encrypted at protocol level in communications between systems. TruPrevent Technologies provide protection in the system, at operating system kernel level, where data has been decrypted and is being run. It is at this level that protection is most effective.
